Title : The Phantom of the Opera Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Release Date : 2004
Duration : 120 : 12
Album Type : Soundtrack
Genre : Film Music

Review :

Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical adaptation of Gaston Leroux's 1911 gothic mystery novel The Phantom of the Opera proved to be at least the composer's second-most successful project, behind only Cats, and with the potential to outdo even that blockbuster. The musical opened in London in October 1986 and in New York in January 1988, and both productions were still running (along with many others around the world) when the film version finally premiered in December 2004. Because the same starring performers, Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, moved from the West End to Broadway, there was no original Broadway cast recording, the original London cast album serving to represent both stagings. In line with the success of the show, that album, a double-disc set, was also a hit, selling four-million copies in the U.S. alone by 1996, with another four-million copies of a single-disc highlights version as well. Although there was also an original Canadian cast album (not to mention foreign language versions from such countries as Japan and Austria), the movie soundtrack represents the first major re-recording of the score since 1986. Again, Lloyd Webber has opted to issue it in two versions, but this time, the 63-minute single CD is considered the standard release, with the double-disc set (housed, for a limited time, in a cardboard booklet with numerous photographs) billed as the "special edition" version. Even fans of the show and the film may want to stick with the shorter one, however. The two-hour special edition is that rarity, a soundtrack album which actually contains the complete, unedited film soundtrack, including dialogue, incidental background music, and sound effects. This, of course, makes it something of an odd listening experience, especially because there doesn't seem to be any reason why some dialogue is spoken and some is rendered in sing-song recitative. Lloyd Webber has written some extra background music here and there, as well as one new song, and that's an oddity, too. Minnie Driver, who plays the prima donna Carlotta, had her singing dubbed by Margaret Preece, but she turns up at the end and, over the closing credits, sings "Learn to Be Lonely," an irrelevant and musically out-of-place song clearly composed just to have a new tune that would be Academy Award-eligible. The film's other singers are adequate but no competition to Crawford, Brightman, and their colleagues, and the initial recording remains the one to buy. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide.

Original Motion soundtrack Spider Man 3, free download albumsOUNDTRACK

Review

Apparently Spidey's discovery of his dark side coincides with the discovery of his indie side. With the exception of a somewhat incongruent appearance of Chubby Checker's "The Twist," the SPIDER-MAN 3 soundtrack features all-new offerings recorded specifically for the film from some of indie's hottest acts.

The compilation opens with an earnest ballad from Snow Patrol, "Signal Fire," which seems to be poised to be the movie's hit single. While the remaining 14 tracks can be a bit of a hodge-podge combo at times, there's definitely something reflecting all the movie's moods -- from mayhem to maudlin.

You'll find a high-energy track from The Killers ("Move Away"); a raucous offering from Wolfmother ("Pleased to Meet You"); and some more pensive, acoustic stuff like The Walkmen's "Red River" and "Scared of Myself" from up-and-coming California band Simon Dawes.

Things get a bit more lighthearted with "The Twist" and the charming little ditty "Summer Day" -- a duet between actor Jason Schwartzman and the movie's own red-headed heroine, Kirsten Dunst, who by the way, can actually sing.

But by far the most anticipated track has to be The Flaming Lips' "The Supreme Being Teaches Spider-Man How To Be In Love." This melancholy tender song with its quirky title is one of the album's most appealing, and perfectly captures the superhero's struggles.

Fans of the web-slinging hero, might also like the Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack or anything else Spidey.

REVIEW

At least since the mid-'60s, there has been a dubious but undeniable connection between kids' television and novelty pop songs. With the rise of the Archies in the latter part of the decade, Saturday morning TV became saturated throughout the early '70s with wacky adventures of young-ish hipsters who just happened to be able to break into super-groovy songs at any moment. Producer Ralph Small has capitalized on his self-confessed jones for Saturday morning TV with Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits.

What makes this more than just another compilation co-optation is Small's recognition of the mind-melting nature of kids' TV, and the great liner notes. Artist prospective, show/song bios, and an essay from Small make this a truly fun collection. With minimal experimentation or revisionist arrangements, the tunes stick to their mind-numbing, ear-catching simplicity.

Of course it's guaranteed that you'll be singing along, but the faithful pairing of artists and songs makes it extra sweet. Groovy grrls Liz Phair ("The Tra La La Song"), Mary Lou Lord ("Sugar Sugar"), and Juliana Hatfield and Tanya Donnelly ("Josie and the Pussycats") spin a rainbow of sonic cotton candy. Matthew Sweet caves into his teen idol fantasies with a dreamy, safely psychedelic "Scooby-Doo Where Are You?." Sponge probes their Motor City roots via Japanamation with "Go Speed Racer Go," and several other acts seem to be channeling their childhood heroes: Butthole Surfers/"Underdog," Helmet/"Gigantor," Ramones/"Spiderman," and Sublime/"Hong Kong Phooey."

While the depth goes about as far as a Scooby Doo plot, this collection is great for parties -- or a Saturday morning hangover. ~ Theresa E. LaVeck, All Music Guide

Original Motion Soundtrack A Walk To Remember, free download albums

Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, the film A WALK TO REMEMBER features teen phenom Mandy Moore as straight-laced Jamie Sullivan, the 17-year-old protagonist who ends up getting involved with and changing for the better the town bad boy Landon Carter (Shane West). Not surprisingly, Moore's vocal talents have landed her on the soundtrack with lovelorn ballads ("Only Hope", "It's Gonna Be Love"), a mid-tempo nugget ('Cry"), and a heartfelt duet ("Someday We'll Know" with Jonathan Foreman). Foreman's Contemporary Christian Music group Switchfoot also helps maintain the mood of innocence with secular fare like the ruminative "Only Hope," hook-filled slow roller "Learning To Breathe," and chiming "Dare You To Move". Other notable cuts include Toploader's snappy cover of '70s one-hit wonder King Harvest ("Dancin' In The Moonlight"), a ballad by Christian teen songbird Rachael Lampa ("If You Believe"), and a slice of soaring, blue-eyed soul by the late New Radicals ("Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough"). There's even a stab at alt-rock by Moore co-star Shane West via West, Gould & Fitzgerald's "So What Does It All Mean?"

Original Motion Soundtrack Sweeney Todd, free download albums

This is (one of) the tag(s) for the original soundtrack of the movie Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Sweeney Todd is a villain appearing in various English language works starting in the mid-19th century as a barber and an early example of a serial killer. His weapon is a straight razor (or cut-throat razor in British English), with which he slits his victims’ throats. In some versions of the story Mrs. Lovett, who is his partner in crime and variously his friend or lover (and whose first name is variously Marjorie, Sarah, Nellie, Shirley or Claudette) hides the crimes by butchering the corpses of Todd’s victims, baking their flesh into meat pies, and selling them to unknowing customers. He is also assisted by an unwitting apprentice lad named Tobias Ragg, who later aids in unmasking his crimes. In most recent versions of the story, Sweeney either helps or hinders (sometimes both) the love affair of a young woman, Johanna Oakley and a sailor named Mark Ingesterie or more commonly known as Antony Hope. In the musical stage production and 2007 film, Johanna is Todd’s daughter Johanna Barker.

Sweeney Todd may not be a wholly fictional character. In two books, Peter Haining argues that Sweeney Todd was an historical figure who committed his crimes around 1800. Nevertheless, other researchers who have tried to verify his citations find nothing in these sources to back Haining’s claims. There is, however, a similar story reputed to have occurred on the Rue de la Harpe in Paris that likely influenced the stories of Todd as well.

Original motion soundtrack Underworld Evolution, free download albums

All Music Guide Review

A fine example of a great soundtrack to a bad movie, the Underworld original motion picture soundtrack is full of so much thematically cohesive music, near incestuous collaborations, and material composed specifically for the disc, it plays almost like a concept album, written within the parameters of rage, sex, melancholy, and fear. Among the more notable tracks are numerous one-minute interludes by Renholder -- a pseudonym used by longtime Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle collaborator Danny Lohner -- whose murky, industrially infused guitar segues help to create smooth transitions between artists and songs. Another gem is "Rev 22:20," a song credited to Puscifer, the recording name for the collaboration of Lohner and Maynard James Keenan. "Rev 22:20" is far from cheap shock rock, despite such sacrilegious lyrics as "Christ is coming/And so am I" -- not a far cry from the words actually found at Revelations, chapter 22, verse 20: "He who testifies to these things says, 'Yes, I am coming soon.'" No Bible passage, however, appears to directly reflect the line "Jesus is risen, it's no surprise/Even he would martyr his momma to ride to hell between those thighs." The messianic subject matter immediately sets the stage for any listener to easily become either enraged or aroused. The song strokes at the audience's guilty excitability and explores the way that Judeo-Christian sensual forbiddance parallels the volatile eroticism of basic sexual frustration. Keenan's presence on the album is as pervasive as Lohner's, coming up again in excellent string-heavy remixes of the A Perfect Circle tunes "Judith" and "Weak and Powerless," as well as singing background vocals on the David Bowie song "Bring Me the Disco King" -- a reflective and sexy track that outshines the original version that appeared on Bowie's 2003 Reality. Appearances by Milla and Sarah Bettens round out the moodier side of the album, while songs like "Baby's First Coffin" by math-metal group the Dillinger Escape Plan inject the disc with a pissed-off energy that saves it from overall goth gloom. Even a track by the borderline laughably self-important industrial act Skinny Puppy is perfectly placed. The Underworld soundtrack's profile took an understandable hit for its involvement with such a cheese-fest of a movie, but it stacks up remarkably well on its own merit. Perhaps the soundtrack alone should be granted a sequel. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Music Guide

The Grease soundtrack is the original motion picture soundtrack for the 1978 film Grease.

The most successful songs from the soundtrack were written specifically for the film. They included the Billboard number-one hits "You're the One That I Want", "Grease" and the number-three, Academy Award-nominated "Hopelessly Devoted to You".

The soundtrack album hit the top of the charts in the U.S. during the summer of 1978, replacing The Rolling Stones' Some Girls.

Some of the backing musicians debuted as Toto after their fame from the soundtrack. They also performed on Olivia Newton-John's album Totally Hot and Physical.
